Namsadang revealed the complaints of the people oppressed by the controlling class in the latter period of the Joseon Dynasty through performance full of humors and criticisms, inducing social changes. Namsadang generously allowed the people, who have been chased out while engaging in social reform, to join the troupe and share difficulties. Namsadang toured markets all over the country engaging in revolutionary activities where social corruptions were disclosed and the people awakened.

In modern way of speaking, Namsadang expanded social reform through art performances. Considering the fact that Namsadang, despite being treated as humbler than servant classes, played such roles, the social and historical values can be said to be more significant.

At the same time, it is can be regarded as another great achievement of Namsadang that it had developed the vulgar performance treated as a mean act of deluding the world and deceiving the people to a level of popular art performance.

Baudeogi has jumped off the limitations of Namsadang being lowlier than servants and the idea of predominance of men over women. Baudeogi can be evaluated as being a person who had created popular performance in Korea and had planted the power and the courage of living to the people.

Overcoming prejudices on Sadang troupe and the Gullip troupe who used to engage themselves in prostitution to make living, Baudeogi has brought the Namsadang’s entertainment culture regarded as being mean and vulgar to a level of popular performance enjoyed by all the people, launching a campaign of disclosing all social irregularities to the general public. It is really amazing that Baudeogi, as a young woman, became the Kkoktusoe, the chief of Namsadang trope composed of only men, and traveled across the country with a group of some 100 performers, inducing social reforms.

Baudeogi enjoyed full popularity through her unique talents, promoted Namsadang troupe to a level of the nation’s best public performance group, while she remained as the mother of entertainment and a performance.
Baudeogi even now teaches us the value of the Namsadang culture as a woman who had glorified Joseon Dynasty, providing a ability to bring Namsadang performance to a world-level culture of Korea.
